Important Notice: Data Breach Affecting Personal Information

We are writing to inform you of a recent significant data breach that potentially involves the personal information of every US, UK, and Canadian resident.

On August 11, 2024, it was reported that 2.7 billion records containing personal information, including full names, current and past addresses for at least the last three decades, Social Security numbers, and information about parents, siblings, and other relatives (including aunts, uncles, and cousins) were leaked on a hacking forum.

The data was obtained from National Public Data, a data broker that compiles profiles from public sources used for background checks. The accuracy and completeness of the leaked data are uncertain, but given its scope, we are concerned it may be used for targeted phishing, fraud or identity theft utilizing the expanded knowledge set.

To protect yourself against potential fraud and identity theft, we recommend the following steps:

  • Check if you are affected: Visit the NPD Breach Check website to determine whether your sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth, has been compromised in the NPD data breach. You can access the site here: https://npd.pentester.com/.

  • Monitor your credit reports: Regularly check your credit reports for any unusual activity. You can obtain free reports from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

  • Freeze your credit and enable alerts: We recommend that you place a credit freeze and establish fraud alerts on the three main credit reporting agencies. These measures restrict access to your credit report, making it more difficult for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name. Additionally, you will receive alerts for any suspicious activities related to your credit. If you need to apply for credit, you can temporarily lift the freeze.
